a) Room temperature is generally considered to be about 25 oC.The melting point of naphthalene is higher than room temperature. Why, then, is this type of petroleum diesel a liquid at room temperature?
b) Trans-decalin is a fused bicyclic molecule. Although its molecular weight (C12H18; m. w. = 138.25 g/mol) is larger than the molecular weight of naphthalene, its melting point is much lower. Explain briefly.
Thank you SO much! :)
