A Research Paper is assigned to analyze and critique (one) a social issue related to marriage and family. The Social Issue relevant to Marriage and Family will be explored using good research skills, good writing skills and legitimate reference materials from reliable and valid sources.

The research assignment is designed to foster further exploration of the concepts and ideas presented in the text and applying them to your social world. As we study different aspect of marriage and families you will be given the opportunity to reflect, reason and write about the concept in more depth.


The process is as follows:Students will choose a social issue related to marriage and family-this will be shared in Discussion Board One;The student will present research on the chosen topic by finding 3 or more relevant sources using the library database, in addition may use one on line source, and may use one interview with a person who has knowledge of the research topic. There must be 5 sources in total.The paper will have an opening statement about the topic and why chosen. The body of the paper will be a review and summary of the research and why it is important to sociology, and the conclusion is the student’s perspective on the topic..
The paper will 5-7 pages in length not counting the cover page and reference page. It must be written in Times New Roman 12 pt Font and follow APA 7th (For APA assistance go to Purdue Owl)

The issue of violence by an intimate partner in a marriage has become a widely discussed issue in the world in past two decades. This issue raises the concerns related to th
e physical as well as mental health of the abused partner in a marriage. Spouse abuse has been recognized as a human right concern worldwide by the Fourth World Conference on Women which was held in Beijing in 1995. The term domestic violence has been called by other names also such as spouse abuse, marriage abuse, partner abuse or intimate abuse. The main purpose of choosing these terms is that it does not define abuse related to the gender of the partner who is abusing. It has been very clearly specified that the odds of suffering are equal for men as well as women. However, the research and other sources have indicated that women in a marriage are more likely to be victimized for domestic violence. A survey by the National Crime Victimization Society in United States has stated that women in a marriage are ten times more susceptible to getting injured by their partners in a relationship. Studies have found that 20.4 percent women in a marriage suffers abuse in a marriage relative to seven percent men.
The violence in a relationship have been defined in three ways based on the prevalence of the abuse, (i) overall prevalence, it refers to the partner who has ever been physically abused in a marriage, (ii) twelve month prevalence, it refers to partner who has been abused by their partner in last twelve months and (3) currently prevalence refers to relationship where on the partner is currently getting abused in an intimate relationship.
Some people considers Domestic violence as an intimate issue and not as a social issue. But the main cause under the domestic violence and more prevalence of violence being presented as a victim of domestic violence also underlies in our social upbringing. The social upbringing of a person that is their primary socialization has set up some gender roles in our minds. From childhood, men are socialized into dominant and aggressive roles than women.
