Essay-Lord of the Flies The Inner Beast Jack continues to scheme against Ralph, the twin’s Sam and Eric, now assigned to the maintenance of the signal fire. When a ship passes by on the horizon one day, Ralph and Piggy notice, to their horror, that the signal fire which had been the hunters’ responsibility to maintain has burned out. Furious, Ralph accosts Jack, but the hunter has just returned with his first kill, and all the hunters seem gripped with a strange frenzy, reenacting the chase in a kind of wild dance. Jack starts to act weird towards Piggy since he met him. Jack starts to release his inner beast every day that passes. Jack's inner beast is slowly being released, If he keeps acting like this it will eventually come out. Jack starts by bullying Piggy and bothering him. Calling him fatty and laughing at his name. You’re talking too much,” said Jack Merridew. “Shut up, Fatty.” Laughter arose. (page #27). This is slowly revealing Jack’s inner beast because he doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings. Later on, Jack splits from the group and makes his own group because he gets insulted by Ralph because Ralph says how would you kill the beast when you can’t even kill a pig. “Look! We’ve killed a pig—we stole up on them—we got in a circle—” Voices broke in from the hunters. “We got in a circle—” “We crept up—” “The pig squealed—”. Jack proves his point to Ralph, which makes Jack a threat because he can’t be trusted anymore. He ran off with a group of people just to prove a point. He could do this anytime in any situation if he has to prove a point. When the group is split Ralph and Piggy go to find Jack so they can get his specs back. When they arrive Jack kills Piggy, "The rock struck Piggy glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist." Jack has lost it, he kills piggy and doesn't feel bad about it. He doesn't care if it's wrong, he broke all the rules the boys established. Jack has lost it on the island. His inner beast came out which resulted in piggy dying. This relates to the real world because some people’s inner beasts get released by doing certain things, here are some examples. If someone is in a life or death situation their inner beast gets released and they go into survival mode. Another example is when people go through breakups. They start letting their emotions go and let them control what they do. The last example is when someone is mad about something and they take it out on someone that has nothing to do with it. Jack starts to act weird towards Piggy since he met him. Jack starts to release his inner beast every day that passes. Jack is starting to release an inner beast, at the end of the story jack ends up killing piggy. That’s when his inner beast got released.
