A number of paleoanthropologists in France, Germany, and the United States remained skeptical about the findings, but they were unable to disprove the consensus of the English scientific community. As time went by, however, more hominid fossils were discovered, and none of them exhibited the combination of an apelike jaw and a large, humanlike cranium.
