A microwave radiometer is used to measure the column water vapor and the infrared brightness (IB) temperatures in clouds. Clouds were randomly selected, and a weather station in Coffeyville, Kansas, collected the following summary statistics.
a. Find a 99% confidence interval for the population variance in column water vapor and in infrared brightness temperature for cirrus clouds.
b. Find a 99% confidence interval for the population variance in column water vapor and in infrared brightness temperature for cumulus clouds.
c. Is there any evidence to suggest the variance in column water vapor or infrared brightness temperature is different in cirrus and cumulus clouds? Justify your answers.
