Glass ceiling is a metaphor used for an invisible barrier preventing certain group of people (generally minorities and women) from developing in their career. It was used by women who protested against discrimination. In some work environments and countries, women are known to not be as good as men. Women carrying a weight of doing household and family chores rather than working and getting promoted over a male. They claim that women are not giving proper chances to go to high positions in a company due to some invisible barrier. Men believe women are not capable of being in charge or taking on a higher position. With that being said, I do believe women are more compassionate and should not let emotions get in the way of work, but what men can do, women can do better. Glass ceiling was not only created for women but different groups of individuals who apparently can’t do the job better then the other group. If a woman wants to break trough the barrier and become a leadership role, she is going to have to play by the male rules. I know in my department at one-point woman were not allowed to become police officers. It was a male only job since they believed that women were not strong enough to hold the position. What they did not understand is that women bring many assets to the force such as compassion and understanding. As a female Detective, it was hard to get into the position I am in now. When someone is in need a law enforcement officer to help a child or to help talk to people, they call me. I am able to talk to people, understand and get them to relate to me. A lot of people see women as less threatening therefore they are able to talk to me, come out of a house or show me a little more respect then they show the males.

To me, a glass ceiling is a limit in power and salary that exist for women in business. In my opinion A glass ceiling exists because men like to network with other men who have similar tastes such as golf, yachting and everything else that comes with being rich. With a female at that level, it's hard to make them "one of the boys". Also at that level, which I know nothing about and pretty sure will never know much about, I would think that people, including women, can be bought at a certain salary where they are content and not looking to advance any higher because all their needs are met financially. Another explanation of a glass ceiling may exists simply because there is a preconceived notion that men should run businesses in America and not women. It's seen in movies, books and in real life that the most powerful people are men, the secretaries are female and the women that are in higher roles run around working extra hard compared to everyone else in the organization.
I also think there is a glass ceiling not just for women but many minorities and other people as well. A decent salary could be seen as a tool to keep people from trying to get higher in the corporate pyramid.
