A machine measures the peel-back force necessary to remove the packaging for electrical components. A tester records an output force that changes as the packaging is separated. Currently, one random sample is taken from three shifts and compared to a specification limit that reflects the customer needs for a maximum and minimum peel-back force range. Whenever a measurement exceeds the specification limits, the cause is investigated.
(a) Evaluate the current plan and create a sampling plan utilizing control charts.
(b) Assume that the peel-back force measurements are in control/predictable. Create a plan to determine if the process is capable of meeting the specifications.
(c) Discuss alternative sampling considerations.
