(a) I’m inclined to agree. Often we get what we want, enjoy it for awhile, and then fi nd that it is no longer satisfying. In the movie Chariots of Fire, an athlete who wins an Olympic gold medal after years of arduous preparation experiences moments of depression when he realizes that his quest is fi nally over. Though I may look forward to completing the writing of a diffi cult textbook and enjoying the rewards, I usually fi nd that the real pleasure is in the process of writing, revising, and seeing my words take shape on the page.
