A former client of your firm sees you on the street at a local lunch stand and shows you a copy of a judgment rendered against him in a small claims court. He tells you he is out of work and cannot afford to hire a lawyer. Can you help the client proceed pro se (on his own, acting as his own lawyer)? Can you help him prepare the paperwork to appeal the judgment? Would any of this constitute the unauthorized practice of law? (See Pennsylvania comments to Ethics Rule 5.5.)
