Section A
Introduction
The United States has been dealing with a lot of controversy and heated arguments regarding the legalization of marijuana. While Marijuana Ban at the Federal Level by The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937, states such as New York and Virginia have started legalizing the use of marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes. However, the question arises if the intake of marijuana a correct habit, despite the risk of health hazards it can pose. Considering the health risks posed by the intake of cannabis or marijuana, it is ideal and safe to ban the use of marijuana across the different states of the United States.
Supporters of Legalization
Several people wish to support the legalization of marijuana across the different states of the United States. These people believe that it is correct to legalize marijuana in the United States for both the purposes of recreation and medical help. Several states, inclusive of New York and Virginia, have supported the act of legalization of marijuana for the people. In each study, around 91% of people have supported the legalization of marijuana, while only 8% have stated that it should remain illegal across the different states of the United States. Among the 91% of people who have supported legalization, 60% have opined that it is correct to legalize marijuana for recreational and medical purposes. However, the rest, 31%, have stated that legalization should be done primarily for medical purposes only.
Health Benefits
It is undeniable that there are many health benefits, which are associated with the intake of marijuana. The uses of marijuana regarding its health aspects can benefit people suffering from different kinds of diseases.
Pain
The two chemical compounds found in marijuana or cannabis, namely Cannabidiol or CBD and Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, can be immensely helpful in curing any chronic pain (Medina et al., 2019). These two chemicals also provide a significant amount of relief from arthritic pain to a major extent. Greater than 1,700 patients with chronic nerve pain were included in a study of 16 published studies by German researchers, who discovered that marijuana-based treatments boosted the proportion of people who experienced a 50% or more reduction in pain alleviation.
Diabetes and Blood Pressure
Different studies revealed that the two chemical compounds found in marijuana, called Cannabidiol or CBD and Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, can have a significant positive impact on the body's insulin levels (Ravi, Ghasemiesfe, Korenstein, Cascino & Keyhani, 2018). In addition to that, the two compounds found in marijuana can be beneficial in the process of blood circulation as well as lowering blood pressure.
Lungs
The intake of marijuana can thoroughly improve the lung health of people. However, the dosage of the information needs to be measured and based on a specific prescription. If the dosage is taken correctly and adequately, marijuana intake can increase the lung capacity of patients suffering from problems in the lungs. Some of the improvement in respiratory muscles was attributed to cannabis smokers' habit of taking deep breathes as they smoke, although smoking one joint a day is hardly an aerobic activity.
Cancer
The two compounds that constitute marijuana, namely Cannabidiol or CBD and Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, can prove immensely beneficial for patients suffering from different forms of cancer (Saadeh & Rustem, 2018). However, this still needs detailed study and research to be applied in natural medicine and healthcare.
Certain cannabinoids may delay cancer growth and spread, according to animal research. In spite of these studies indicating that cannabinoids may be safe in the treatment of cancer, they have not demonstrated that they aid in controlling or curing the illness. By avoiding or postponing traditional cancer treatment, patients run the risk of neglecting their health and relying solely on marijuana for relief.
Migraine Headaches
Migraine sufferers presently have the most effective treatment option in the form of sumatriptan (Imitrex). Cannabis has been offered as a therapy several times; however there is practically little clinical data on its effectiveness.
Chemotherapy- Nausea and Vomiting
The most common adverse reaction is nausea of chemo. Antiemetic medications that do not work well for some people could find relief with cannabinoids. 87% thought marijuana was "moderately" effective, while 17% claimed it was "very effective."
