  1. As a member of a public health team, you have an interest in controlling tuberculosis (TB) through vaccination. To estimate the level of immunity in your study population and derive data useful for generating vaccination policy, you should

  1. Conduct a case-control study of TB

  2. Conduct a randomized trial of TB

  3. Conduct a retrospective cohort study of TB

  4. Conduct a cross-sectional survey of TB

What method of sampling would you use to determine the following?
Give brief reasons for your choice

  1. Prevalence of asthma in 4-year-old children in Newcastle?

  2. Prevalence of Breast Cancer in Australia?

  3. BCG vaccine (this vaccine is given at birth to prevent Tuberculosis) coverage in a rural district of Indonesia?

4. A recent prospective cohort study based on 54-year follow up data reported that cigarette smoking is associated with lower incidence of gout. What measurement issue would be of your concern? Moreover, the number of participants decreased during the follow-up. What biases it would lead?

Therefore, could we now conclude that the individuals with high income are at an increased risk of committing suicide compared...

Q1. a few cardiologists seek your advice concerning a study they would like t
o conduct to determine the effects of myocardial infarction (MI) on subsequent mortality. What might you recommend, particularly in terms of a suitable study design, study subjects and duration of the study?
I would suggest that a cohort study be undertaken .In a medical study this is the best kind of research design especially when both the input and output variables are known .It is very clearly stated that the effect of Myocardial infection on mortality has to be studied hence the risk factors are clearly known .The samples otherwise known as cohorts are the subjects of the study.
Study subject: people with acute MI occurrence and with all-cause in-hospital and post-discharge are to be observed.
The duration of the study will depend upon how long the onset of gradual deterioration of health happens or when symptoms of retardation occur .
