A female client has a history of asthma. She arrives at the outpatient clinic and states that her chest feels tight and that she cannot ‘‘catch her breath.’’ The nurse notes that this client is having trouble speaking. Immediate care of this client includes fluids, administration of bronchodilators, and relief of anxiety. When the client is stabilized and able to be discharged, the nurse wants to assure that the client can take steps to help prevent future asthmatic attacks. What information from the client does the nurse need to better provide appropriate discharge teaching?
