A father brought his 13-year-old son for a psychological evaluation because of behavioral difficulties in school. His son has transferred to different schools for the past 7 years because of reports of physically hurting other children, talking back to teachers, truancy, hurting animals, lying, stealing, and in the latter part academic difficulties. His father, who is a single parent, is already confused and doesn’t know what to do. He said that he had tried everything including talking to his son, enrolling him in a special school, and consulting various medical professionals. During the psychological evaluation, you found out that his son fulfills the criteria for conduct disorder. You know that his son is very likely to progress to Antisocial Personality Disorder based on the results of the evaluation. The father was devastated by the news but requested you to explain to him fully his son’s condition and if there is anything that can be done to change his son’s personality.
