(a) Consider the following arguments: “If libido is not the same as physical energy, a person could be physically exhausted yet still have a great deal of sexual energy. That doesn’t seem likely.” “Physical energy can be measured, but the amount of libido invested in a particular mental event cannot be measured. So the concept of physical energy has scientifi c value, but the construct of libido does not.” (b) To convert physical energy into behavior that will satisfy the person’s needs and reduce tension. (c) For the guilt dynamism: Saying “I made a mistake, and I’m sorry” (which involves a small amount of physical energy), agonizing for days over a mistake (which involves considerably more energy), daydreaming about having avoided a mistake by doing the right thing, forming powerful unconscious beliefs that one is a bad person.
