A condenser in a steam power plant is used to convert the steam exiting the turbine into a saturated liquid at the same pressure. Typically, this is done in a shell-and-tube configuration, where the steam passes through a shell, which contains many tubes carrying a cooling fluid. Design a condenser for a power plant in which steam is condensed from a quality of 0.90 to a saturated liquid at a pressure of 15 kPa. The cooling fluid flowing through the pipes is liquid water at 125 kPa. The water enters the condenser at 5°C. The mass flow rate of the steam is 150 kg/s. The cooling water cannot exceed a velocity of 10 m/s, and the diameter of any tube can be no larger than 8 cm. Your design should include the number of tubes used.
