Life of Lewis Mumford
Lewis Mumford
(1895-1990), an American social philosopher and architectural critic, looked at civilizations to see if they could create a humane environment. He stressed the need for long-term planning for the environment. Lewis Mumford was born on October 19, 1895, in Flushing, Long Island, New York. Stuyvesant High School was his alma mater until 1912. In the United States, he worked as a radio operator. In 1918, the Navy was formed. He became an editor of Dial magazine the following year and then traveled to London in 1920 to serve as interim editor of the Sociological Review (Haëntjens, 2019). When he returned to New York City, he authored The Utopias Story (1922).
