A catheter (kath‘ e ter) is a flexible tube. When a sterile urine specimen is needed, the urologist may introduce a catheter through the urethra into the bladder to obtain the specimen.
A procedure for enlarging heart vessels is called trans/catheter therapy or angioplasty. It is possible to introduce an intravascular occlusion balloon “through” a catheter. Look up these terms in your dictionary and note the use of the prefix trans-.
