A 6061-T6 aluminum-alloy wide-flange shape, having the cross-sectional dimensions shown in Figure P16.72b, is used as a column of length L = 4.2 m. The column is fixed at base A. Pinconnected lateral bracing is present at B so that deflection in the x–z plane is restrained at the upper end of the column; however, the column is free to deflect in the x–y plane at B (Figure P16.72a).
