A 50-year-old male visiting from Japan complained of fever, abdominal pain, and jaundice. A stool specimen was collected for ova and parasite examination. A blood specimen was also collected and sent to a clinical laboratory for testing. The blood work showed a slightly increased serum bilirubin level. The parasite examination showed small, oval, operculated eggs (approximately 80 um 3 45 um), with opercular shoulders and a knob on the opposite end.
