A 100 g sample of a soil was shaken with a strong solution of BaCl2 buffered at pH 8.2. The soil suspension was then filtered, the filtrate was discarded, and the soil was thoroughly leached with distilled water to remove any nonexchangeable Ba2+. Then the sample was shaken with a strong solution of MgCl2 and again filtered. The last filtrate was found to contain 10,520 mg of Mg2+ and 258 mg of Ba2+. What is the CEC of the soil?
