Part A
Introduction
Hackers targets private sector companies, including media and entertainment companies, law firms, two banks and investment
companies, a healthcare company, and even a stock image company. The indictment said that in this effort, hackers used a "password spray" strategy to collect publicly available user email lists and then attempted to access them using a common password; this approach allowed them to access 36 US companies, 11 European companies. Once a hacker gains access to an account, they will leak existing content and set forwarding rules to pass future emails directly to them. One way to avoid loss of this type of information is to use and deploy encryption. This can be in the form of self-encryption hard drives where users must enter a four-digit PIN or use software-based encryption for encrypting emails, files and/or directories, such as using great secret privacy (PGP). Using Open Source Encryption Solutions can help us solve a cheap and powerful encryption problem
What was the problem;
The US Department of Justice filed a complaint against Irani hackers who attacked more than 300 universities and foreign countries in the United States in March this year. The suspect was accused of infiltrating 144 American universities, 17 other universities in 21 other countries, 47 private companies and United Nations, US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other targets including Hawaii and Indiana states (Graff et al., 2018). The US Department of Justice said that hackers have stolen 31 terabytes of data, estimated at $ 3 billion in intellectual property. This attack is well-suited to the phishing email scam experts and other university affiliates who click on malicious links to access their network login credentials. Of the 100,000 hacked accounts, they were able to get about 8,000 credentials, of which 3,768 were from US agencies. The US Department of Justice said the event was traced back to a Mafia clearinghouse called the Mabna Institute, which was established around 2013. The organization is suspected of handling hackers and links to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards. The tensions between Iran and the United States have often spread into the digital area and the recent situation is particularly at a delicate stage (Graff et al., 2018).
How and why it occurred
The U.S. government recently launched an up-to-date agitation on Iran’s network activities, accusing nine Iranian hackers of three-year massive attack, stealing or stealing more than the 31 terabytes of intellectual property data from more than 300 messages - from more than 300 American as well as foreign universities (Hernandez-Castro, Cartwright & Stepanova, 2017).
The effort detailed in the 21-page indictment on Friday in Kaifeng is equivalent to "one of the largest state-sponsored hacking activities in the history of the Justice Department," said Southern District US Attorney Jeffrey Berman. These efforts have created a long list of victims, of which there are 144 American universities and 176 universities in 21 countries. The organization has also participated in 47 private companies, which are government objectives at various levels like the US Department of Labour, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Hawaii and Indiana State and United Nations (Krunal & Viral, 2017)    .
The focus of the hacking campaign is a Tehran organization called Mabna Institute, which also serves as a clearinghouse for contractors and hackers whose mission is to steal and steal data, intellectual property, and the contents of the professor's email inbox. Rafatnejad organized hacking and cooperated with the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard, while Mohammadi served as the managing director of Mabna.
"These cases are very significant as it will undermine the actions of Institute moreover will prevent other perpetrators from committing similar crimes. The indictment publicly points out the accomplices. In this era of public identity, by depriving hackers of the anonymity or imposing actual consequences to prevent state-supported computer intrusions," Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in a morning bulletin in Washington. Revealing the evil actions of Mabna Institute makes it harder for them to do business (Owens, 2016).”
According to the Department of Justice, many network intrusions begin with complex "spear phishing" activities, and emails sent to target professors seem to come from scholars in other schools. The link in the email points the professor to pages that appear to have accidentally exited the university account...
