“Nothing ever happens in my cases. The kind of services my agency supplies are just supportive, keeping an eye on clients just in case there is an emergency; then some other agency comes in and does the work.” Response to Case 3 If we may be so bold, we’d like to suggest you have things upside down. Your clear target is to maintain the status quo (perhaps some sort of adequate or reasonably healthy and happy living for clients). What you have to look out for are signs of change, especially deterioration. So what kinds of targets would these “no-changes” be? And by what means could you indicate states of health and healthy functioning? In short, we believe that your evaluation task is essentially the same as described previously, but you will be monitoring current levels of adequate or productive functioning. Also, consider the identifying stages of risk model, discussed previously. While we are talking about monitoring current levels of positive functioning, let us note that evaluation of primary prevention usually involves study of health and healthy functioning, and the attainment of desired new states of healthy functioning. So, remember that “targets” can refer to both problems and desired goals.
