6. Find the t value for the following data on dominant versus nondominant grip strength. Twenty subjects were measured twice, once with the dominant hand and once again with the nondominant hand. Which hypothesis, H0or H1, might be appropriate in this study? Is the difference significant, and if so, at what level of confidence?

Dominant

NonDominant

X1bar=40 pounds

X2bar=35 pounds

SD1=12.7

r=0.83

SD2=14.2

Ho: r is not significant. There is no significant difference in the mean between the dominant hand and t
he non-dominant hand.
V/s h1: r is significant. There is a significant difference in the mean between the dominant hand and the non-dominant hand.
R = 0.8300
n = 20
Test statistic, t = r*sqrt((n-2)/(1-r^2))
0.83*SQRT((20-2)/(1-0.83^2))
6.313

Alpha =    0.05
t(a/2,n-2) = t(0.05/2,20-2) = 2.101
p-value = 2*(1-P(T<|t|) = 2*(1-P(TWith t=6.313 > t(a/2,n-2), I reject Ho and conclude that r is significant. There is a significant difference in the mean between the dominant hand and the non-dominant hand.
This value is significant at 1% level of significance.

Ho: there is no significant difference in the mean body com- position among prepubescent males and females.
H1: there is a significant difference in the mean body com- position among prepubescent males and females.
