EVRE5017 EVALUATION & REFLECTION SPRING 2018 COURSEWORK BRIEF GSM LONDON Page 2 of 14 Assignment Questions: The assessment for this module is a portfolio which includes a collection of activities, exercises and entries that you complete in Evaluation and Reflection module. This assignment reflects on the work conducted in Project Design and Implementation (Module code PPDI5039). Overview of the portfolio Portfolio: ‘The term portfolio is used as a catch-all that covers a wide range of methods for collating learning material and assessed work’ (McMillan and Weyers, 2008, p.38). For this portfolio you are expected to provide three entries and an appendix. Each entry is explained in the next section in this assessment brief. • Entry 1a – Reflective report – 1,500 words – Addressing Learning Outcome 1 (LO1) and Learning Outcome 2 (LO2) • Entry 1b – Reflection on one week – 1,500 words – Addressing Learning Outcome 1 (LO1) and Learning Outcome 3 (LO3) • Entry 2 - Career and personal development plan – 1,000 words – Addressing Learning Outcome 4 (LO4) • Appendix A – Learning journal: evidence of 10 entries (1 per week) • Appendix B - (Additional evidence only if required) Tasks and entries The materials and reflections of your experience will be collated from various activities within two specific tasks. These tasks are 1) - maintaining a Learning Journal and 2) designing a Career and Personal Development Plan. The tasks will feed the completion of each of the main entries for the portfolio and they are explained as following: Task 1 – Learning Journal (70% of the Portfolio) ‘A learning journal is essentially a vehicle for reflection’ (Moon, 2006, p.1). The learning journal must be submitted as an appendix, including each entry (a minimum of 6 entries is required, bearing in mind that incomplete evidence could impact your final grade). The table below provides a summary of the learning journey and more specific guidelines are also presented in the Scheme of Work (SoW) and at GSM Learn. Weekly tasks for the learning journal: Week 1 Jotting down initial reflections Week 2 Screen shot of your response in the class forum Week 3 Key reflective words Week 4 Reflective writing: completed self-assessment form Week 5 Three recommendations to improve your learning experience Week 6 Reflection on a critical incident using REFLECT Week 7 Reflection on leadership and conflict resolution using REFLECT Week 8 Completed peer-formative feedback sheet Week 9 One page plan of Entry 1a and/or Entry 1b Week 10 A draft of your professional value statement The learning journal is 'evidence' of your learning and reflections and you have to use it to inform your final assignment. Therefore, it is required to cross-reference the relevant entries in the main body of your submission. Ensure that each week is saved with the relevant title and the date. Compile them as Appendix A Entry 1a - Reflective report – 1,500 words – Addressing LO1 and LO2 A reflective report of 1,500 words should be submitted as evidence of reflection upon your professional context. The knowledge and experience gained in the PPDI module should be used as a part of this reflection. In this section you should address LO1 and LO2. The following questions could be used as a guide for the reflective report: • Why learning through reflection is important and what values could bring to your professional development? EVRE5017 EVALUATION & REFLECTION SPRING 2018 COURSEWORK BRIEF GSM LONDON Page 4 of 14 • Which reflective model have you chosen and why? • Applying the relevant reflective model, what were the three main things you learnt from the PPDI? • Does this differ from your previous knowledge of these areas? • Do you see any value in the knowledge gained when applying a particular reflective model and why? • Will this new knowledge change your practice? During sessions you will be familiar with different reflective models around learning, learning through reflection and reflective practice. You must apply at least one of these reflective models to inform your reflections. Ensure that this entry is well-structured providing: • an introduction and conclusion. • In-text citations should be accurate and presented according to the Harvard Referencing convention. • Cross-references to your learning journal • If required, you can add additional evidence from the PPDI module. Make sure that is clearly labelled, dated and compiled as Appendix B. Entry 1b – Reflection on one week – 1,500 words – Addressing LO1 and LO3 Based on ONE-WEEK event, apply and critically evaluate one (or more) reflective models. The knowledge and experience gained in the PPDI module should be used as a part of this reflection. A reflection of 1,500 words should be submitted addressing LO1 and LO3. The following questions could be used as a guide for your reflection on one-week: • What technique/model did you used? • Why did it happen and what was your initial reaction to the event? (indicating the relevant week) o Have you ever had these feelings before? o What is your understanding of the outcome of this experience or your feelings about it? o Are these feelings valid and why? o How would you approach this situation if it arose again? During sessions you will be familiar with different reflective models around learning, learning through reflection and reflective practice. Task 2 - Career and Personal Development Plan (30% of the portfolio) "Personal development Planning (PDP) is a structured and supported process undertaken by an individual to reflect upon their own learning, performance, and/or achievement and to plan for their personal, educational and career development" (QAA, 2001). In this career and personal development plan, you will appraise your strengths and weaknesses, reflect upon how you can further develop your strengths and professional skills. You will also set SMART goals that you should visit and revise on a regular basis for the rest of your student life at GSM and beyond. Task 2 is divided in four small entries which are described below. This section should be a total of 1,000 words (excluding template) in which you must address LO4. Ensure that cross-references to your learning journal and entries 1a and 1b are provided. Entry 2a – Personal Analysis Applying the SOAR (Self, Opportunity, Aspirations, Results) to the creation of your career and personal development plan will provide the theoretical base to focused planning.
