As human beings, we sometimes ignore our intellect and employ our emotions or bias in how we perceive a particular situation. This is often true in how victims are perceived. When the victim is viewed through a negative perception, this can be labeled as “victim blaming”. As professionals in the justice system we know that how an individual dresses or conducts themselves does not give another individual the right to abuse them.


Review the video from the September 17th show:"Would You Try to Help a Battered Woman?". Post your thoughts about the public response to the scenario and answer the following questions. Explain your reasoning.



  1. Do you think the public are accurate in their judgment?

  2. Do you think victims can come from every occupation, socio-economic and ethnicity?

  3. Do you think the public has the right to blame the victim or should they blame the abuser?

Ans1. I don’t think that the public are accurate in their judgment. In fact, I feel public is short-sighted and base their judgment on emotions rather than facts. Indeed, as showcased in the video and witnessed in the article, victim precipitation has different negative connotation associated with it. Especially, in cases like rape and case of sexual abuse, I actually agree with the critics that there is perhaps highest level of victim blaming.
