1. Imagine that the company’s leaders ask you for advice on how to build a diverse and inclusive workforce that allows it to leverage the potential of its diverse employees to
enhance the company’s performance. What would be your advice?
Answer: If I was ever asked for advice on how to build a diverse and inclusive workforce that allows it to leverage the potential of its diverse employees to enhance the company’s performance, I would advise them some points, which are:
Connect with the employees: Connecting with your employees can help you understand them and the way they work. It is important because it enables you as a leader to support them and provide them with what they need while they do their job. It is the key to build a diverse and inclusive workforce that allows it to leverage the potential of its diverse employees to enhance the company’s performance
Interact with different people: Mingling is always a good option. Employees most of the times follow and work inside their silos. As a leader it is your responsibility to take them out of those silos sometimes and make them interact with people that they do not generally interact with.
Create groups that provide the resources for the employees: Not all employees are equal, they are racially, culturally, sexually different from one another. Employees find it helpful when they find other employees from similar background. They put their trust on them and hence leaders should provide with some space to the employees to be a part of those groups that they find themselves suitable to join.
Place importance on inclusion: Decide the core values and goals that are important for the company and a project. This will not only unify the present employees but also concentrate the attention of other people who are willing to join your company and it will work as a positive impression t on your company’s profile.
Hold meaningful meetings: Holding meetings that actually has a significance can help in building a diverse and inclusive workforce. It can be very effective towards the company’s goals as well as the teams to boost them up and motivate to reach the set goals.
2. Do you think expectancy theory is too complex for direct use in organisational settings? Why
or why not?
Answer: The expectancy theory is based on the approach that “individuals have different sets of goals and have expectations, so these people can be motivated on the basis of their expectations”
There is a principle underlying the expectancy theory that states that there are choices available for the employees to make. This theory is also known to concentrate on the consequences only. It does not focus on the recognition and the needs of the employees. The expectancy theory consists of three components, that is, expectancy, instrumentality and valence.
All these factors have made me come to a conclusion, which is, the expectancy theory is not much complex for direct use in organisational settings.
It is not too difficult because organisational settings also have enough resources most of the times that they can set these goals for the employees where the employees can do their work or fulfil that one particular goal to get their expectations fulfilled. It does not necessarily have to be a pay raise. It can be admiration and acknowledgement, it can be a small gesture of appreciation, a reward or anything that influences the employee in doing the job. Expectancy theory can be easily implemented in any organisation regardless of the fact that how much resources or funds they have got because there is always something to give. This is why I think that expectancy theory is not too complex for direct use in...
