3. Analysis Use the 'Circle of Security' roadmap (Dolby, 2017) to analyse what was happening for the child in observation below. In your analysis, utilise the Circle of Security roadmap (Dolby, 2017), as well as your readings, to interpret your observation using a ‘Circle’ moment (i.e. the child coming in to the educator as a safe haven for comfort or going out from the educator’s secure base to explore their world). 1. See and guess - What specific emotional need on the ‘Circle’ do you think the child had? 2. How do you imagine the child was feeling? (Ok or not ok) 3. Why? (Support my exploration - watch over, delight in, help or enjoy with me: or welcome my coming back for – protection, comfort, delight or to help organize my feelings) observation example: In the morning, children sat with their focus educator for engaging in daily experience. The project was about making Aboriginal flag and children were encourage to create their own Aboriginal flag using the paints. Jane came into the room with her grandfather. "Bye Bye" grandfather said to Jane and left quickly. Jane stared at grandfather leaving the room for a minute then joined the group. She looked at the paints and said "I want green. because it is my mummy's favourite colour and I only want green!"Jane screamed. Educator said "we are working on Aboriginal flag at the moment and it doesn't need green. however I can set up another art table after the session" "No. I want green now. I hate this, this silly paints!" Jane screamed to the educator. "Jane, I'm sorry but all your friends are working on it at the moment and unfortunately I've used all two art tables for the class. I will make sure to set up the table after. If you don't want to make the flag, you don't need to. Would you like to play with other toys while waiting?". Educator asked to Jane. "No, I want to do this now!" Jane threw brushes and paints to the floor. "Now, all the paints are gone. I want to paint green only. My mummy's favourite colour" Jane screamed at educator. "No, leave me alone. I hate you". Jane ran to the corner. Educator went to Jane, kneeled down on her level. "Jane, can I sit next to you? I know your are very upset and I understand how you are feeling. I will wait until you feel better". Jane cried for a few minutes then stopped crying. "I want cuddle. I miss mummy and daddy" Jane and educator cuddled until Jane settled. "Sorry I screamed at you. I love you not hate you"

Incident occurri
ng to the Child in Observation Example
In the given observation example, Jane is a young girl, who has come to her early education classes, being dropped by her grandfather. She seems to miss her family a lot, which is why she is seen to longingly bid goodbye to him, before joining the other children in the room. When she was offered to paint an Aboriginal flag out of her creativity, like all other children, she did not agree to it, stating her preference to use only green colour that is her mother’s favourite.
This shows her deep attachment to her family, which lingers with her, despite the presence of an educator and friends. Using the ‘Circle of Security’ roadmap, it can be analysed that Jane is currently in the top-half of the circle, where she wants a secure base of support to let her learn and play to be explored (Dolby, 2017).
In the next moment, on being denied on the opportunities to be explored, she shows challenging behaviour and disagreement to an extreme level, where she decides to be left alone, rather than being...
