Certain jobs cannot be done by just any person and require specific skill sets and trained personnel to handle them. These jobs may be physically demanding or mentally challenging. In any case, they require skills that only trained workers have. The workforce that is educated and trained for such highly specific jobs are called skilled workers.
Today, there is a high demand for skilled labor in almost all industries (O'Mahony, Robinson & Vecchi 2008). This has resulted in the several changes in the economy. There has been a tightening of hiring policies by companies internally and the relaxation of policies to import skilled labor from outside externally. In addition, the cost of hiring skilled labor has also shot up substantially.
Employing skilled labor has a lot of advantages. Skilled labor performs better jobs and delivers higher quality. They are able to perform their work with little to no supervision and are a great asset to a company. Skilled labor is often more efficient in their work and can deliver greater value to their employer as against unskilled labor. In short, skilled labor is indispensable to a company.
