“Alvin Ailey - D-Man in the water”
is a dance form, choreographed in the year 1989 by Bill.T.Jones. This show was premiered at the Joyce Theater, New York. Jones put Damien Acquavella; a professional dancer who was affected with HIV/AIDS and was in the final stages of his life, to perform in his dance show.
The message was targeted to the audiences to create awareness, understand their reactions and uplift a sense of humanity towards this life threatening disease. (Alexis Liston; Pg. Liston9)

Bill.T.Jones was a choreographer of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Alvin Ailey was a famous choreographer and died due to AIDS. Therefore, Jones wanted to openly perform a piece of dance addressing AIDS.
It also depicted the pain of the gay dancers who are affected to HIV/ AIDS in the United States and will die soon. Still they are physically, mentally and spiritually strong (Alexis Liston: Pg. Liston8 & 9)
