Project Report and Presentation 301175 Internet of Things Page 1 of 2 IoT_S2_20ProjList.doc Project Report and Presentation Prepare and present an investigative report on a topic relevant to the unit material, which is of interest to you. While some topics are suggested below, you are encouraged to choose any other suitable topic (in which case, you need to seek approval before starting your work). Within a topic, after giving a brief general overview, you probably need to narrow down to some specific issues (e.g., architecture, protocols, applications, etc.). Grading for this task is based on the report and presentation content, organization and completeness, clarity, and creativity. This work is to be carried out by teams consisting of maximum three students. The Report must be submitted electronically before 11:30 AM 23rd of September 2020 as both PDF and Word (or other word processing) files through the vUWS site of the unit. The hard copy of the final report must also be submitted before the start of your presentation (see below). As a guide, the final report should be around 4000 words. Please use font size 11 pt (or 12 pt) and single spacing (double-column, if students prefer) with the following format • Title • Project member/s (name/s and SID/s) • Abstract • Introduction • Body of the report (sections numbered sequentially with appropriate heading and subsections, if needed). • Conclusion • References (that are used in the report and clearly referred to in the material of the report itself). The team should also present the report in the assigned presentation time on 23rd of September 2020. The presentation times would be assigned, in the order of suggested topics below that have been taken up. All members of the team need to share the presentation and/or be prepared to answer questions arising from the presentation and their report. Your presentation time is about 20 minutes and it should quickly but intelligently reveal your topic, your understanding of the topic examined, your critics (and possible proposals), and conclusions. Suggestion: try to limit your presentation to 15 minutes (leaving some room for questions) and 10 or 12 slides! In order to facilitate selection of project topics, each team must provide the information asked for in the following tables as soon as possible, but no later than by the end of class on 29th of July (Week 4). You will then be informed of the topic assigned to you through vUWS. Following that, you need to prepare your progress report, which outlines your topic and how you intend to carry out the work. It should be in the form of short (less than one page) synopsis of your project or case study. Your team will have a brief meeting with the Unit Convenor on 19th of August (Week 7), to discuss the progress report that you hand in at the start of the meeting. Suggested Topics 1. Emerging wireless communication technologies for the IoT 2. Evolution of wireless sensor networks towards the IoT 3. Emerging standards and technologies for the IoT 4. Integration of cloud computing and internet of things 5. IoT devices: Regulations, standards, and certifications 6. IoT mobility management and routing issues and solutions 7. IoT for smart home: Challenges and solutions 8. Smart city architecture and its applications based on IoT 9. IoT based architecture of web and smart home interface 10. Quality of service issues and solutions for the IoT 11. Modelling and simulation techniques for the IoT scenarios 12. Privacy and security issues in IoT applications 13. Ethical issues relevant to the IoT and smart environments 14. The presentation was informative but few elements went unanswered. Much of the information irrelevant; coverage of some of major points. 2 Comprehension Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of topic. The member showed complete understanding of assignment. Accurately answered all questions posed. 3 Basic Presentation skills: Minimal eye contact. The audience was not engaged. The presenter spoke too quickly or quietly making it difficult to understand. Inappropriate/disinterested body language. Dependence on just reading off slides. 1 Good Presentation skills: Regular/constant eye contact. The presenter held the audience’s attention. Appropriate speaking volume & body language. 2 Group marking Category Group Scoring Criteria Points Score Content (2 points) The presentation was a brief look at the topic. Most important information covered; little irrelevant info. 1 Points made reflect well their relative importance. Presentation appropriately cites requisite number of references. 1 Visual Appeal (2 points) The slides were easy to read with relevant headings. 1 Visual aids are well prepared, informative, effective, and not distracting. Information is clear and concise on each slide. 1 Organization (1 point) Information is presented in a logical sequence and within the assigned time limits. 0.5 All presenters participated equally, and helped each other as needed. 0.5 Group Score Group Total Points 5 Missing Above Average Satisfactory SID: LAST NAME: FIRST NAME: Project NO: Percentage D 0%-45% C 50%-65% B 66%-84% A 85%-100% Abstract 15 0-7 7.5-9 10-12 13-15 Describe the subject being written about. In addition to D, describe the work to be discussed in the paper. In addition to D and C, say how the research was/is being undertaken. In addition to D, C and B, give a concise summary of the findings. Introduction 15 0-7 7.5-9 10-12 13-15 Gives enough to tell what the topic is but little prioritizing. Describes topic, refers to past work, what is proposed to do here. As in C, but shows what past work has done/not done; logical progression to topic. Interesting and complex account to why this topic, what questions need to be addressed, foretaste of original contribution. Body 30 0-14 15-19 20-25 26-30 Some relevant points in descriptive lists, mainly either pro or con. Titles on tables and figures are too brief, in the wrong location or missing essential information. No referencing. More relevant points drawn from literature, lists both pros and cons, but has difficulty in making a convincing case. Data is displayed using titles on tables and figures. Most/all relevant points from mainstream literature; uses appropriate structure to resolve issues in convincing argument. Evidence that the data has been manipulated and there is some preliminary analysis. Appropriate referencing. As in B, but makes an original case in own voice, well supported by resources/references going well beyond the mainstream literature Excellent analysis and presentation of data. Summary and Conclusions 15 0-7 7.5-9 10-12 13-15 Summary is a list of either pros or cons leading to a lopsided conclusion. Summary recognizes differences but unable to resolve them, weak conclusion or jumps to conclusion. Summary is balanced leading to a well- reasoned conclusion. Summary leads to a surprise or original conclusion generating new issues. References 15 0-7 7.5-9 10-12 13-15 Sparse; little evidence of library skills. Incorrect formatting. Uses only internet sources. Evidence of some search skills Standard references in mostly correct formatting. Uses a limited range of texts (i.e. textbook) and internet sources. Some sources lacking in currency, credibility and/or relevance. Comprehensive, showing care in researching the issue, format correct and clear. Uses a comprehensive range of texts from books and magazines and internet sources. Clear evidence of a wide range of relevant, current and credible sources used to answer/explore the question/task. Report layout 10 0-4 5-6 7-8 9-10 Guidelines/requirements largely ignored. No headings and subtitles. Not around 4000 words. Headings without subtitles or no numbering. There may be no titles, or no captions. Wrong font and space format. Generally adheres to the specified formatting requirements. Numbering is sequential. Titles are underneath figures. Constructs and displays data in an appropriate and relevant manner. Closely
