Introduction
In today’s world, there are many issues for concern, which are threatening the human existence. These issues are spread globally and at initial stages, it had minimum impact, however with the change of time it is growing at a rapid pace. The countries all around the globe, especially the global leaders must come together to address this issue along with the joined cooperation with United Nations before it gets too late. The following paper will address the different issues of concern, their effects and the possible remedies to minimize the effects.
Climate Change
1. Effects on Global Stability
In few recent decades, the climate is changing rapidly, which is turning out to be a concern for environmental preservation. According to Hof et al., the global change in climate is posing serious threats to human lives as the necessity the food is being affected due to low agricultural production. The reason behind this is due to the excess heat and low period of winter is not allowing the crops to grow. The water required for irrigation is also facing scarcity and that is affecting the crops growth. The water scarcity is happening due to lack of rain and continuously usage of under earth water, which is not being fulfilled by the rainwater. With the increasing in pollution the atmospheric layer is getting thinner, and therefore the amount of heat is increasing as the layers shielding the excess heat is getting replenished.
Besides, due to the replenishing of the atmospheric layers the ultraviolet rays and other harmful rays gets access to enter into the atmosphere and affecting the human with different kinds of diseases. The increase in the heat is also leading in melting of the mountains in Polar Regions. The Ice Mountains are being melted and that is adding into the increase in the sea level water. This increase in sea level water is leading to frequent floods and that is creating a huge disaster. With the increase in sea level, there is a fear of some cities being drowned into the water. These kinds of disaster due to the climate change is increasing the number of deaths and increasing the number of people getting ill.
Due to this following unrest of the people, the cities and the countries where they are living will also suffer. The government of those countries will have to face a sever challenge to overcome this challenge as this challenge is increasing continuously. The more inhabitable a place will be the more people will tend to migrate to other place and thus will automatically disrupt the ecological balance of the place. The increase in people migration will also increase the social as well as the economic burden over that place. Therefore, the climate change, which is increasing the global warming, is having a serious effect on global basis. With the increase in the mean temperature, the health related problems are increasing and thus the medical treatment is increasing.
To provide the citizens with these facilities the economic pressure is keeping on rising and thus it is directly affecting the GDP of that country. Also with the increase in the construction and industrialization the cutting down of the trees are taking place at a random speed and thus it is adding fuel to the increase in temperature. With the cutting down of trees the increase in greenhouse effect is also increasing, which is a serious threat for existence. Therefore, these are few points that are a matter of concern in the global basis due to the climate change. (United Nations Report).
2. Actions to be taken by United Nations to address the concern
The global climate change is creating a serious threat to the sustainability of the human being and the preservation of the ecological balance. Therefore, countries all around the world can come together and stand on a mutually agreed solution to address the issue as well as find a solution. The United Nations is also taking an active participation regarding finding solution to address the climate change before it gets too late. As per the Paris Climate Change Agreement (United Nations Report), few essential decisions were taken regarding the issues related to the climate change. The limiting the global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius temperature would require a rapid and unprecedented changes in all the aspects of the society as said by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in their new assessment.
The purpose of this assessment is to make clear that the benefits to the people and natural ecosystem by limiting the global temperature to 1.5 degree Celsius with respect to 2 degree will go hand in hand and that will ensure a more sustainable and equitable society as a whole (United Nations Report). UN is concerned for the protection and preservation of environment as that will ensure the sustainability of climate. The climatic changes are making a number of problems. Hence, UN should be looking for reducing the impacts of urban activities. This will ensure that the less use of chemicals should be used and the emissions level should be minimized. UN should be promoting for the usage of solar energy and using resources to implement the development of solar methods of transportation, supply of energy and many more where the power is consumed through burning of coal or fuels and thus creating the pollution level that is the reason behind the climatic change. As the climate change is a global problem, therefore the solutions that are proposed should be followed and implemented to other countries as well.
Through the international level of joint efforts, the developing countries and the third world countries can help them to move towards and adopt low carbon economy. The people must follow certain practices that will help them to contribute their part in the sustainability. The peoples should consume fewer amounts of water for cleaning, bathing and other household activities. In addition, the agricultural and industrial requirements should be addressed through preserving the rainwater, rather than consuming the under earth water. Peoples should use economical methods of transportation and...
