Hello and a warm good afternoon to everyone present over here. We all like to roam around and travel the world for fun, to visit nature, get away from pressure or anxiety or just to experience some adventure. Tourism is one of the most widely growing industries, globally and it brings profitable business to almost every nation. However, it would be essential to understand that international tourism has increased from 25 million globally in 1950 to 1.3 billion in 2017 and it is expected to reach 1.8 billion by the end of 2030. Therefore, despite of the beneficial and economic aspect brought by increasing tourism, it would be essential to consider the negative impact accompanied with increased tourism.
Although, travel and tourism might contribute to 10% of the global GDP, yet it does not justify its negative impacts on wildlife and nature. Huge amount of water and other resources are being used every day in order to fulfil the needs and demands of tourists. Likewise, increased use of transportation not only adds up to increasing population but also facilitates the fuel crises, which the world will face in coming time. 40 million tons of carbon is being dumped into the oceans every year and tourism contributes a significant amount to this number.
Hence, sustainability in tourism industry is required. Sustainable tourism is a new concept and it refers to the tourism, which takes account of its current as well as future economic, social and environmental aspects. Therefore, sustainable tourism addresses the needs of visitors, environment, industry and host communities, simultaneously. Sustainability depends upon responsible planning and management where tourism is no exception. In order for the industry to survive as a whole, imperative need for sustainable and responsible planning is required. It would be essential to understand that everything does not depend upon tourism rather tourism depends upon everything. Therefore, there is a need to identify a balance between usage and limits concerning availability of resources in order to manage continuous change, monitoring and planning.
2. Approach Taken for the Presentation
It would be essential to understand that in order for the presentation to be effective, the presenter is required to choose optimal approach. Since, this presentation was prepared to distribute the information; therefore, ‘me to you’ approach was adopted where ‘me’ represented the presenter while ‘you’ represented the audience.
