1. Why does Descartes come to the conclusion that any idea that is “clear and distinct” must be true? What does it mean to say that an idea is “clear and distinct”?
2. Descartes claims that “by the light of natural reason” he knows that there has to be as much reality in a cause as there is in its effect. Is Descartes’ claim appropriate in light of his earlier assumption that God or an evil genius are deceiving him? Why?
