1. What kinds of physical and psychological characteristics does Behn give to Oroonoko when he is in the Gold-Coast African country of the Coromantee people?
Behn describes Oroonoko as a man of great learning and wisdom. She apprehended him to be wiser than most men, with a great understanding of human nature, science and politics.
“and ’twas amazing to imagine where it was he learned so much humanity: or, to give his accomplishments a juster name, where ’twas he got that real greatness of soul, those refined notions of true honor, that absolute generosity, and that softness that was capable of the highest passions of love and gallantry, whose objects were almost continually fighting men, or those mangled or dead, who heard no sounds but those of war and groans”. (Behn 5)
As for his physical features, Behn recognized his features to be that of a noble man. He was tall, brown and very handsome and had the air of a royal about him.
