1. Let the tens digit be x and the units digit be y.
Then the number is 10x+y
x+y=10
If the digits are reversed
the new number is 10y+x
10y+x=54+10x+y
9y-9x=54
y-x=6
Adding equations 1 and 2 we get 2y=16
Y=8
X=2
The number is 28.
2. Let the tens digit be x and the units digit be y.
Then the number is 10x+y
x+y=11
If the digits are reversed the new number is 10y+x
10y+x=10x+y-45
9x-9y=45
x-y=5
Adding equations 1 and 2 we get 2x=16
X=8 and y=3
The number is 83.
3. Let the tens digit be x and the units digit be y.
Then the number is 10x+y
x+y=16
If the digits are reversed the new number is 10y+x
10y+x+10x+y=176
11x+11y=176
The number is 88.
4. Let the tens digit be x and the units digit be y.
Then the number is 10x+y
x+y=10
If the digits are reversed the new number is 10y+x
10y+x=18+10x+y
9y-9x=18
y-x=2
2y=12
Y=6
X=4
The number is 46.
5. p = pennies, n = nickels, d = dimes
