1. Practice reading a picture book to others in your class, modeling some of the ways a teacher might involve students in shared reading. Ask for feedback; then read the story to a group or class of children. Compare the responses.
2. Skip ahead to one of the inquiry-based learning projects listed in another chapter in this text. List all the ways that literacy skills are applied in the project.
3. Choose a K–2 grade level that you would like to teach or are already teaching. Using that grade level, organize the CCSS for English Language Arts in a way that best enables you to remember the main skills for each standard. Keep in mind that, while it might be impossible to memorize all of the skills under each anchor standard, knowing a large percentage of them will help make you more confi dent as you integrate the curriculum using inquiry learning.
