In the present scenario, effective practices and strategies linked with human resource management are vital for the success and growth of an organisation.
The practices are important because they help in carrying out the best and most optimum utilization of the available human resources.
The workers are required to be compensated adequately and effectively against the work done. Furthermore, businesses are also required to make sure that appropriate practices linked management of human resources are carried out as the practices facilitates the smooth flow of all activities and operations.

However, it can be critically argued that ineffective compensation and HR management practices are a big challenge for companies as they result in developing a high degree of dissatisfaction among the employees (Brewster, Chung and Sparrow, 2016).
In addition to this, ineffective compensation and HR related practices also result in affecting the morale and motivational level of the staff members.
The present study is based on Woolworths Limited which is one of the leading and most trusted retailers in Australia and New Zealand. The company is considered as the most trusted retailer because it is taking care of the impact of its operations and activities on three major areas which are environment, economy and society (About Us, 2018). The objective of Woolworths Limited is to create value for its customers by developing a customer-led team and culture. In addition to this, offering high-quality food and products at convenient prices is also considered as an important purpose of Woolworths Limited. The selected organisation is using a partnership approach, and here it has formed a partnership with different suppliers in the country. The overall business strategy of Woolworths Limited is also directed towards reducing the overall cost of operations and carrying out continuous improvement in its processes (Strategy and objectives, 2018).

Issues / Problems that being analysed
Human resource management (HRM) is considered as a critical function of an organisation as it deals with areas such as performance management, compensation, training and development, employee motivation etc.
Effective practices and strategies associated with HRM are important because they support businesses in attracting and retaining skilled and talented employees in the long-run.
Adequate and satisfactory HRM practices also play a critical role attaining a high degree of satisfaction among the workers and enhancing their motivation level. Apart from this, it is also required by companies to carry out review and monitoring of their HRM plans and practices at regular intervals. The rationale behind this is that regular monitoring can provide businesses with an opportunity to understand the key issues and loopholes in the existing practices. Considering the case of the selected organisation which is Woolworths Limited, it has been analysed that at present, ineffective compensation and HR management practices are the two major issues faced by the organisation. The issues are critical because they have resulted in creating obstacles in the success and growth of Woolworths Limited.
