1. Keep in mind how readily children mimic adults. What positive traits of yours might young learners choose to imitate? What negative traits might they also choose to imitate?
2. Think back to when you fi rst entered school. What were your fears and concerns? How did adults in your life at the time ease your apprehensions? What, if anything, could adults have done to make you less anxious during your initial days of school? Discuss how these memories, favorable or unfavorable, could be used as a guide to create a welcoming, reassuring foundation for young learners as they begin their school career.
3. Think of the many transitions that might take place during the school day, such as lining up, washing hands, getting coats, and so on. Identify as many possible transitions as you can, then discuss proactive measures that could be taken to ensure that these transitions go smoothly.
