1. If you are a teacher or if you are student teaching, look at your lesson plans for the current week. List as many places as you can find that would benefit from the addition of a social studies learning. Try to follow through on at least two of them.
2. Observe your own class or one you work with. List ways in which a more democratic atmosphere could be created. Try one or two of these ways on a temporary basis, with teacher permission if appropriate. If the children are old enough, poll them for their responses to the change. Take notes that include successes and difficulties. Discuss these with other classmates or teachers.
