Answer:
The distribution includes the followings:-
1) Finding the center of the distribution –
The two important features of the distribution of quantitative variables are the center and spread of the value. The numbers used in describing the distribution are mean and median. The mean is the arithmetic average of the values and median is the middle value. It is presented graphically as histogram.
2) Comparing mean and median – Mean is influenced by the extreme observations which are included in the data set and it also misrepresents the center of the distribution which are left skewed or right skewed. The median is resistant to the extreme observations. Mean and median are close to each other for symmetrical distribution. It is presented graphically in the form of normal curve.
3) Measuring spread of distribution – Only mean and median alone do not describe the distribution, the numerical measures of spread gives the idea of variability. This includes common measures of spread like range, quartiles and standard deviation. They are represented graphically as boxplot and histogram.
4) Variance and standard deviation – Variance measures the dispersion of the data in describing the distribution and standard deviation is the square root of the variance.
