1. Actually Fungi in Vesicular Arbuscular Endomycorrhiza has less host specificity as compared to fungi
in Ectomycorrhiza. There is evidence of existence of various degress of specificities between ectomycorrhizal fungi and host plant. The reasons for host specificity are mentioned below:
a. There is a process of molecular recognition before colonization of root by the hyphae of fungi. This molecular interaction is very specific.
b. For ectomycorrhizal association of fungi and plants, they should be compatible to each other and this compatibility is recognized between the root of the plant and fungus by molecular signalling with the help of genetic information of plants as well as fungus.
c. There is less host specificity in VAM Endomycorrhizae because they can get associated with large variety of plants.
2. Many plants produce compounds which have low molecular weight and these compounds are antifungal in nature and prevent growth of fungus inside the plant’s body. These compounds can be preformed inhibitors which impart constitutive...
