Introduction
American constitutional system ensures the reach of social justice given to each and every legal resident living in any state. In fact, by the 14th amendment made in the Bill of Rights, it has been cleared that no difference should be made between the native resident and immigrant resident that have taken American citizenship. However, there are cases of oppression, torture and unnecessary detentions done to a particular community, the Muslims, in the name of spreading so called terror. Dave D, in his book, covers the story of such an unfortunate Syrian merchant sailor, Abdulrahman Zeitoun, who happened to be a legal immigrant American, previously known as Syrian citizen. The bitter experiences of Zeitoun in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina are remarkable in the context of implementing freedom of living granted through Bill of Rights. Zeitoun’s case exemplifies the compromises made with a view to false accusations, inaccurate detentions, questioning the implied sense of equality that Bill of Rights brings to the immigrant citizens of United States.
Overview of the Issue
    At first, it is significant to note the problems with Mr. Zeitoun in the light of the racial discrimination that he had to suffer. He was a Syrian-American, living in the Dart Street of New Orleans, as Dave mentions in his book. He was married to Kathy, a Christian converted Muslim lady and had four children. He was running a successful business of construction and painting in the region when Katrina hit the area. Kathy and children moves to her sister’s place to remain on the safe side. However, Zeitoun decided to stay at home and protect the house from the flood and hurricane.
    When Katrina hit the area, it caused severe damages to New Orleans. Zeitoun too suffered a lot due to the natural calamity. But he did not lose hope and not only survived through the hurricane, but also as a genuine citizen, he assisted his neighbors in the rescue procedure. His efforts should have acknowledged but opposite happened. He was arrested and put into the detention centre in the name of robbing the nearby places.
