1.

Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

In my career, I interact with people from various backgrounds. Through conversing and working closely with different people, I have developed high interpersonal and verbal communication skills and the ability to be sensitive and tactful in my communications.

As a assistant Nurse, when working with patients and families I am mindful of my choice of words and use appropriate language to avoid conflict and miscommunication. This not only includes verbal communication but also includes body language which plays a big part in the way patient centred care is delivered. Furthermore, upon past successful handovers I have expressed clear, concise and objective data.

I also have effective written communication skills. In my role as a assistant Nurse, I am required to document all patient responses to direct care/assistance given. This also includes producing written communications by way of progress notes and clinical records in accordance with the plan of care and organisational protocols.

Demonstrated clinical knowledge and clinical problem solvingabilities.

Clinical knowledge requires that I explore the nursing profession’s beliefs and discard those without merit. By way, as an AIN I have outsourced and delivered evidence based practice (EBP) to support solutions and answers to point of care as per clinical access portal (CIAP).

According to CIAP one clinically EBP is that regularly repositioning a patient from side to side prevents bedsores. This means that there is clinical evidence in support of this statement; therefore during my placements to prevent bedsores I continuously repositioned patients.

In my current role as an Assistant in Nursing, I apply critical thinking and effective problem solving skills in my everyday tasks. I use clinical reasoning to collect and process cues in order to understand a patient problems and progress. Where a problem is indentified, I apply my clinical knowledge to determine the issues and where required initiate questions in order to ascertain solutions.

This includes but are not limited to working with general practitioners; practice nurses; community health nurses; allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, psychologists, social workers and Health Workers.

Through my experience, I have acquired an understanding of the important role of the multi-disciplinary team and the valuable contribution each member makes to the care provided to a patient.

As a Nurse, it is important that a patient’s requirements are clearly communicated during a staff handover; furthermore observations and assessments are documented so that as a team effective Patient care is provided.

An understanding of the professional, ethical and legal requirements of the Registered Nurse or Midwife.

Ethical values ensure that I provide quality care to a patient without the intent to harm but to work towards building positive patient outcomes. Healthcare data is to be handled in a way which meets standards and complies with privacy and confidentiality laws.

I have a legal obligation to work within my scope of practice to ensure the safety and quality care is provided to the patient. It is my legal responsibility to prevent harm, and legally report any unsafe and unprofessional practice while integrating safe and effective nursing care.

5.

A demonstrated understanding of the role of the Registered Nurse or Midwife in applying continuous improvement and quality and safety.
