1. CULTURAL IMPACT DISCUSSION

Discover current cultural forces which facilitate evangelism as a lifestyle.

Instructions

We live in an era of increasingly privatized faith. It is increasingly socially unacceptable to openly share one’s faith in the marketplace. To do so is seen as brash and overbearing. As odd as it may sound, this may both enhance and increase the need for living out Christ in the marketplace without using words, per se.

  • Prepare to discuss what cultural forces are at work that are forcing you to rethink how you will model Christianity as a lifestyle. Consider your current work, school, or home environment as context for your response.

2. BARRIERS DISCUSSION

Explain barriers to lifestyle evangelism.

Instructions

n light of the activity above, what other barriers do you see to the practice of lifestyle evangelism
in your own life? Are you a naturally reserved person? Are you afraid of what others might think if they knew you were a Christ follower? How does that square with Jesus’ words about denying Him before men in Mt 10:33? Do you work or live in an environment that sees one’s faith as a “private matter” not to be shared or “forced” on others? In addition, the longer one is part of the Kingdom, the more likely it is that one’s close friends are Christian as well. If we have no unbelieving friends, how do we share our relationship with the Lord?

Prepare to discuss your response to these barriers listed above or others that you have already experienced.

3.
LIFESTYLE EVANGELISM PROJECT

Examine biblical examples of lifestyle evangelism.

Instructions

What was Matthew’s rationale in throwing a party for Jesus and inviting all his friends? (Matt. 9:9-17) What did he want to accomplish here? Why did Jesus choose to attend? What was the end result? What were Paul’s intentions when he visited Mars Hill in Acts 17?

  • Thoroughly examine one of these scenarios and ponder what was going on in the narrative.

  • Write a 3-4 paragraph response on why this is an example of lifestyle evangelism, and what parallels we might draw regarding marketplace ministry.

  • It is not necessary to apply a formatting style for this assignment except when using a source to support your writing.
