1. Collect a number of books for very young children. Survey them to discover how many portray a fantasy view of natural events (sun rising, wind blowing, fl owers growing, animals talking, and so on). Are there more that portray fantasy or more that portray reality? Discuss the implications for young children’s understanding and cognitive growth. Will they become more confused than they already are about natural events? Should books such as these be saved for a time when fantasy and reality are sorted out in children’s minds, or is it better to simply accept the idea of fantasy books for very young children?
