SO 334 Sociology of Medicine A Guide to the Preparation of Heath Care Project Fall 2022 DUE DATE: December 6th, NO EXCEPTIONS Purpose of the Project: One of the benefits of sociology is that it helps enrich our understanding of the social world we live in. In the case of this course, the social world is the healthcare system that affects all of us. The main purpose of this project is to critically evaluate the U.S. health care and ONE developed country’s health care system, in order to understand ways to improve the U.S. health care. As a result of completing this project, you will gain some knowledge of sociologists’ approach to understand health and health care. In addition, you will develop critical thinking skills using logic and evidence and the ability to research and assess the reliability of sources. Finally, this project asks you to demonstrate your knowledge of the American healthcare system and its challenges in the form of a formal report (with an introduction, conclusion, citations, etc.). You may think that the ability to write a formal report only helps you get good grades in college, but the ability to present a clear and well-organized argument is another important skill that will serve you well in almost any occupation. The Tasks - How should you approach this project? With this Health Care Project, you are asked to analyze one of the three problems in the U.S. health care system. You are expected to apply sociological concepts and ideas to examine rising cost or inequity in American health delivery. In doing this, you should demonstrate that you are able to use logical reasoning and a minimum of three scholarly sources to explain one health care problem and communicate your findings effectively in writing. I recommend that you take the following steps as you research and work on this project. Following these steps will help you produce a more successful report. 1.
